DAY 6 & 7 - OBSERVATION AT JALAUD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

 Observation at Jalaud Elementary School

On this Thursday and Friday, Nia and I had an observation at Jalaud Elementary School. Although elementary school is not my realm, but I still want to come as a new experience. In this school we made observations in Ma'am Icell's class because she was Nia's cooperating teacher. Ma'am Icell is the homeroom teacher for the 5th grade obedient. We make observations especially in science subjects. On that day the material taught was about colloids and suspensions.

Based on our observations, learning begins with an orientation in the form of recalling the material taught before. After that, Ma'am Icell introduced the sample mixture directly. After that, Icell's ma'am also showed examples of colloids and suspensions in real life, namely gelatin and a mixture of water with oil.

In this school every classroom has a smart tv that can be used instead of a projector. The reason why the principal chose Smart TVs over projectors is because projectors are more easily broken compared to Smart TVs.

Smart TV as learning media

We also observe on literacy and numeracy subjects. This activity is carried out in the morning before starting learning. Ma'am Icell uses flashcards as a medium for teaching numeracy. This flashcard contains a simple counting operation and students are asked to answer quickly. For literacy, ma'am Icell will give a word and an example in a sentence and then students are asked to write the spelling of the word on a piece of paper.

Ma'am Icell also explained that in compiling learning plans must be based on SMART. Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Timed. But it still has to be in accordance with the existing curriculum.
