DAY 17 - 1st TEACHING DAY

My 1st Teaching Day

Today is my first day of teaching. I have prepared a lesson plan for learning saturated and unsaturated solution material. I have also consulted ma'am Jell and ma'am Rosie. There are not many revisions that I need to do, because the lesson plan I made refers to the package book and modules given. My classes start at 10 o'clock, because I will only be teaching in 7th grade sampaguita. While in the other 7th grade I only made observations.

Because today is Monday, the activity begins with the flag ceremony in ISAT U BNC. After coming to school, I went to Ma'am Rosie to ask permission to borrow a projector and some erlenmeyer. I use interactive PPT and Video as teaching media. I actually want to use a virtual laboratory like crocodile chemistry to give students experience working on a lab scale even though virtually. However, because of internet connection constraints, I use media that does not require an internet connection.

Power Point Text as learning media

The sequence of activities during learning in the Philippines is more or less the same as that in Indonesia. We began our study by praying. I asked one student to come forward and lead the prayer. In Indonesia, the one who usually leads prayer is the class leader. However, in the Philippines it is done by one of the volunteer students. Followed by greeting the teacher "good morning", just like in Indonesia

I use the Learning Cycle 5E learning model, because I feel that the learning model is suitable for the conditions in the school. The activity began with opening activities, namely apperception (recalling previous lessons about homogeneous and heterogeneous solutions), objective (conveying the learning objectives of saturated and unsaturated solution), motivation (the importance of learning saturated and unsaturated material and its role in everyday life).

The first learning cycle 5E syntax is Engagement, which I did by demonstrating sugar dissolved in water. Then I would ask "where did the sugar go?", the students' answers varied. Then I will play a video about solutions and mixtures. Here I also began to introduce the concept of solubility, where if sugar is mixed into water and stirred then the sugar will dissolve.

Next is the Exploration stage, where I will divide students into groups of 5 people, so that in one class there are 5 groups. I asked them to investigate the difference between a solution and a mixture. I'll give them a students' worksheet and explain how to do a simple practicum. Due to the limitations of laboratory glassware, I replaced it with a plastic cup. They have been urged to bring ole ma'am Rosie to bring since last week.

The next stage is Explanation, I will go around and guide the small group and give directions if needed. Students will find terms from the concepts studied then write it on their worksheet. Next is Elaboration, where students will be asked to present their work in front of the class. In the Philippines, when a group makes a presentation, they will choose 2 or 3 people as reporters. while in Indonesia, when making a presentation, all group members will come forward and have their own parts that they will present.

Group presentation

The last syntax is Evaluation, at this stage I will evaluate starting from the results of their work whether it is appropriate, how to do a presentation because when doing a presentation the reporter's voice is not loud so that friend who sit at behind cannot hear it, so as to do a short quiz to assess students' understanding of the solution material. I closed the learning with reflection and delivered the agenda at the next meeting.
